Change an All Wheel 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland to Part time 4wd

My daughter is getting ready to purchase a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland it is all wheel drive with only a setting to 4 low. Can I replace the transfer case with an NP231? Will it affect the computer if so can it be reset\ reprogrammed I have one from a 95 Cherokee and a 96 1500 Dodge ram both with an automatic transmissions or is there something else you could suggest that would work better. it is going to ba a daily driver with some mild off road we now live in Texas.
