Hey y'all. I was wondering if anyone knew anything bad about the 1999 model year for the Ford F-150 2wd truck. I went on a government website and found that it had a much lower insurance risk, (meaning cheaper insurance) than all other 2wd half-tons between '95- '01. I also saw the main difference between other half-tons is a much lower theft rating. Are these trucks ugly? Did they get a lot of factory re-calls? If no one has seen anything wrong with them I might want to buy one.

Oh, the truck with great insurance rates may be a 2000. Does anyone know anything about 2000 Ford F-150 2wd's???

I have a 99 F-150 2WD step-side 4.2, 5-speed and have to say it has been a awesome off-road truck, It has the 3 inch spindle lift in the front and 3 inch blocks in the back with a 3 inch body lift and a Detroit reciting locker with 3:73 gear. setting on a set of 37x13x16 super swapper bogger's. Yes it has been stuck a time or two but in places that 4WD in this area will not go its been beat and thrashed jumped you name it the truck now has 375k miles on it and the ball joints and tie rod ends have only been changed out ounce truck is still running strong as the day I got it no smoke no oil consumption no play in steering. I could not even began to count the times I have had to drag my buddies lifted 4WD trucks out of places I just went through more then ounce. So in my eyes a 2WD will hold up very well and will go very well with about 3 grand put in it.

Take it you have not done a lot of extreme off roading or put a lift or bigger tires on a Chevy truck or you would know they have one of the weakest transfer-case and rear-end in any truck on the road today could not even count how may Chevy transfer cases and rear-ends I have had to rebuild or replace for people in my garage you take a stock Chevy truck 90 model plus put any kind of lift on it with a bigger more aggressive tire on it you will destroy the transfer case or rear-end the transfer case on a chevy truck is cast aluminum and about a 8th inch thick it will bust very easy and the rear-end on the 1500's are no heaver build then a rear-end on a ford ranger. Hell even the Ford Explores use a BorgWarner transfer case heavy gauge 1/4 inch aluminum and heaver drive-train then the 1500 chevy pickup
